Marco Island is the most northerly and largest of the ten thousand islands only 16 miles from Naples, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico.  The island covers approximately 6,000 acres and is approximately 6 miles long by 4 mile wide with 3 1/2 miles of crescent white sand beach.  There are approximately 110 miles of waterways compared to only 115 miles of paved roads.

The island became incorporated on August 28, 1997 and is governed by seven elected council members and the daily operations are conducted by the City Manager and his staff.

The average year round temperature is 85 degrees with May to September being the highest around 90 degrees, with January through April around 70 to 80 degrees and October to December around 80 degrees.
